re: Mr. Belvedere defense

I acknowledged (over and over) that it IS subjective; something someone loves, someone else might hate, and vice-versa.  But MR. BELVEDERE is a pedestrian, corny sitcom--whether you enjoy it or not. You're seeing it thru a scrim of nostalgia, or maybe you just love to veg out to the comfort food of sitcoms. Hey, I've enjoyed THE LOVE BOAT and THREE' S COMPANY,  but I don't fool myself into thinking it's anything more than a pleasant waste of time. I just feel that if Shout Factory has the ability to bring back into the public concience shows long forgotten, maybe they should go a little more highbrow. When they just go for the popular taste, they're being like the same networks that would program BELVEDERE and other tripe instead of quirkier, more interesting, more thoughtful fare. I don't understand how MR. BELVEDERE and MALCOLM AND EDDIE can stand side-by-side with FREAKS AND GEEKS and even SON OF THE BEACH. They're assembly-line standard issue sitcoms, nothing more, nothing less. And it doesn't matter what I think, the shows are coming out anyway. Because of popular demand...emphasis on POPULAR. I'm not opposed to Shout Factory making money, and maybe by putting out more obvious stuff, it gives them the ability to put out something more interesting--say THE DAYS AND NIGHT OF MOLLY DODD, or SLAP MAXWELL, or PRIVATE EYE. And, hey, I dig vegging out as much as the next person, maybe more. But BELVEDERE, even if you love it, is a crappy example of the sitcom format. (I do like the Leon Redbone theme, though.....)

RE: re: Mr. Belvedere defense

Allow me to post my two cents-everyone is entitled to their opinions.  Obviously a lot of people want Mr Belvdere on DVD.  There are plenty more sitcoms out there that are much worse than this show.  In the end it doesn't matter anyway because no matter what is out there people will buy what they want.  Shout! put more research into what titles to acquire other than just want people want to see on DVD.  They look at sales fiures, etc.  Obviously they won't release a show if they don't think it will sell.  Mr Belvedre will sell. Probably not as much as other sitcoms and shows of this era, but more than lesser known shows of pervious eras.  I have already seen many people on various sites eager to buy Mr Belvedere.  Sorry if you're mad some of the shows you consider classic aren't being released yet.  Maybe someday they will be.  Regardless, while you're complaining about it I along with many other fans will be enjoying good old Mr Belvdere who Shout! has enough faith in to release .
