REUBEN, REUBEN/A MATTER OF DEGREES/ANGUS

Shout! has been great at reviving certain movies that have been out of circulation. Why not do the same with the long-dormant REUBEN, REUBEN? This is a film in which the lead actor (Tom Conti) received an ACADEMY AWARD nomination, and yet the film is M.I.A. The screenplay was written by the writer of CASABLANCA, and the film introduced the world to Kelly McGillis, before WITNESS and TOP GUN. This is one film that deserves someone to save it from obscurity and find new fans.

The second movie that Shout! should take a look at putting out again is A MATTER OF DEGREES. They already reissued X: THE UNHEARD MUSIC, which is made by the same filmmaker, W.T. Morgan. Why not get this movie back out there? The movie was barely released when it WAS released, and it is a great homage to college radio; with John Doe from X, and tons of music from the late 80's, including a live performance from Fetchin' Bones, and incidental music from fIREHOSE.

And then there is ANGUS, a movie that, sadly, has been largely forgotten, but which was probably one of the best of the nineties Teen flicks. I guess because the focus was on a fat kid, rather than some great looking couple, or a wallflower who blossoms into a bombshell, it didn't get an audience. It was too painful to watch. But it's written by one of the writers of MY SO-CALLED LIFE, introduces James "Dawson" Van Der Beek as the bully (!) and has a stellar soundtrack, including an exclusive song from Green Day. It needs to see the light of day again.
