what IN THE NAME OF TORGO has happened to the MST3K 20th _NON_-limited edition?

hi friends, Shout!Factory factotums --

I've been real nice and quiet and patient for weeks. But now it's two days after the announced 18 November release date of a non-Limited, non-tin, non-figurine version of the MST3K 20th Anniversary set . . . Does anyone have any idea what's up with this? It's nowhere to be found on DVD sites (unless you count the "History of Trees" placeholder on Amazon, which I don't), I can't find it at retailers, there's no follow-up press release or announcement here at S!F.com -- heck, there's not even any acknowledgement that such a release is going to happen. Wha?

RE: what IN THE NAME OF TORGO...

Allllll right, I'll just post again here, since talking to yourself is ALWAYS a good sign... 8^)

I'm not sure, but now it looks to me as if the S!F catalog page for MST3K 20th has changed to refer to the "non-limited" edition -- it doesn't mention the tin or the limited add-ons. But why the confusing switcheroo? Why list the original release date when those of us looking for the new set are looking for 18 November? Why not make it clear that the original edition is out of print? Completely aside from the price (I'm sure people were hoping it would be lower w/o the add-ons, but, okay, fine), this is a) confusing me and b) confusing the retailers, who don't seem to be listing the newly configured set.

Well, that's not 100% true -- some of them SEEM to have at least a placeholder (e.g. Amazon, DVD Planet). DVDP has two different product codes/UPCs for the "limited" release (826663109238 / SHF010923) and some other mysterious, unnamed 18 November release (826663110722 / SHF011072) -- I suppose that second must be the other configuration, right? But why the lack of clear info?

It's just weird, guys.

But, ha ha, even as I'm writing this, I'm realizing with a sad, sinking feeling that I'm just gonna buy that mystery whatever-it-is anyway, aren't I. Missing Volume 9 was just too traumatic for me. (Hmm, there's a subject for another thread entirely.)

All right, S!F. You know I can't stay mad at you.

(But think about maybe listing your own product from the 18th? Pretty please??)

RE: what IN THE NAME OF TORGO...
Thomariffic,

Sorry.  I have been away from the boards for far too long, producing other sets, including the upcoming <i>MST3K: XIV</i>.  I will say this definitively: the tins are out of print and, from what I understand, difficult to find outside of a few sets on eBay.  Though, you could have some luck in certain retail stores.

As for the non-limited edition, it is out there and available.  You can find it on Amazon or at any of the major retailers that carried the limited edition.  Our site is currently selling the Standard Edition (not to be confused with the Limited Edition).

Again, sorry for the confusion and lack of response.  I'm back now.  Hopefully, for good.

Brian

Wha -- oh, hi, Brian! I didn't see you come in.

No, actually, it's me who hasn't been checking the ol' posts - not since I got my shiny NON-tin-edition (per the earlier posts) and have been happily partaking. Yeah, I didn't think it was S!F's deliberate intention to be confusing -- had more to do with the way retailers update their inventory than anything else.

I'll close out this topic (which, oops, now is gonna be on top again despite its lack of content) by saying thanks for this first S!F addition to the collection -- I think you guys are doing a fine job! Here's to 12 MORE volumes . . . .
