George Papadapolis (Alex Karras) and his new wife Katherine (Susan Clark) were excited to start their new life together, but neither of them were prepared to begin by raising a 7 year old child! A recent orphan after an unfortunate car crash involving both parents, Webster Long (Emmanuel Lewis) finds himself under the care of George and Karen.
Webster was celebrated for addressing hot topics that were related to its premise of an African-American child being raised by white parents. Webster’s uncle Phillip Young (Ben Vereen), was not particularly fond of this arrangement and sought to adopt Webster himself.
Webster was an immediate hit for ABC, often being compared to NBC’s similar Diff’rent Strokes, and ran for a total of six seasons from 1983-1989.
