The Staple Singers were an American gospel, soul and R&B singing group. The group consisted of Roebuck "Pops" Staples and his children, at first his three daughters and eventually his son, Pervis, joined in 1969. They are best known for their 1970’s hits "I'll Take You There," "Respect Yourself" and "Let's Do It Again." The group has been called “God’s greatest hit makers.”
The family started appearing in Chicago-area churches in 1948 and signed their first professional contract in 1952. The Staple Singers have left an imprint of soulful voices, social activism, religious conviction and danceable tunes across the decades since the initial release of “Uncloudy Day” in 1956.
