It's Garry Shandling's Show is, you guessed it, Garry Shandling’s first television show that broadcasted on Showtime from 1986 to 1990. The sitcom is known for its groundbreaking technique of constantly breaking the fourth wall, allowing characters to speak directly to the audience, both in the studio and at home.
Much of the show mimicked his own life, including his actual Sherman Oaks condominium and his romantic relationships. Shandling plays a version of himself, a neurotic, self-obsessed stand-up comedian who just happens to be aware he’s a TV sitcom character.
The 30-minute sitcom ran 72 episodes and was on the air for five years. The show was later picked up by Fox as part of its Sunday night lineup.
