Fusing soul, rhythm & blues, rock and funk,
Little Richard helped lay the foundation for rock ‘n’ roll in the 1950s. His own variety of shouted vocals and rock ‘n’ roll piano breathed new life into the music scene. Numerous artists, including
James Brown,
Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix and
Otis Redding, list Little Richard as an inspiration during their youth and musical beginnings.
Little Richard was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986. His hit singles, “Tutti Frutti,” “Lucille,” and “Long Tall Sally,” earned him numerous awards and fame. In 2004, he was named #8 of
Rolling Stone’s “100 Greatest Artists of All Time.”
Born in Macon, Georgia, Little Richard came from humble beginnings, but through his creative talent and enthusiastic performances, he became larger-than-life and changed the history of music through his unique style.
