The initial line-up of The Von Bondies found each other at a 1997 show featuring The Cramps and Guitar Wolf. Though originally called The Baby Killers, by 2000 their name was officially changed and the line-up solidified with Jason Stollsteimer on vocals and lead guitar, Christy Hunt on rhythm guitar, Leann Banks on bass guitar, and Don Blum on drums. Their garage rock appeal blends raw punk, blues, and alternative styles, staying true to the signature sound of their hometown, Detroit. Debut album Lack of Communication was recorded in only three days with help by producer Jim Diamond.
The Von Bondies rose to garage rock stardom with their 2004 sophomore album and major label debut, Pawn Shoppe Heart. The record, produced by former Talking Heads’ member Jerry Harrison, reached #8 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart, where it stayed for eight weeks. Their third studio album, Love, Hate and Then There’s You, is slated for release in early 2009.
