Blossom is fondly remembered by many as the endearingly quirky teenage girl from a sitcom of the same name. Played by Mayin Bialik, Blossom Russo took us into her home and introduced us to her hectic life at school and her entertaining family at home. There’s Nick Russo (Ted Wass), her single father struggling to raise his children and further his calling as a musician after his wife left to pursue her own career, Anthony (Michael Stoyanov), her eldest brother who is recovering from living life a bit too fast, Joey (Joey Lawrence), her older brother who became known for his drawn-out exclamatory “Whoa!,” and Six LeMeure (Jenna von Oy), her best friend who has a penchant to ramble on with lightning speed.
The show ran on NBC from 1991 to 1995 for five seasons (a total of 114 episodes). A slew of celebrity guest stars, ranging from Mr. T to Hugh Hefner to Will Smith, provided cameos and offered Blossom advice during fantasy sequences. Commercials were run with amusing frequency that promoted episodes with moral lessons as “a very special Blossom,” a phrase that has since been mocked everywhere from Friends to The Dana Carvey Show. Creator Don Reo is also credited as the executive producer of other shows such as M.A.S.H., My Wife and Kids, and Everybody Hates Chris.
