Deke Dickerson |
ABOUT
Born in 1968 in St. Louis, Missouri, Deke Dickerson grew up on a farm with a musical appreciation for all things retro. As a guitarist and singer-songwriter, he blended his favorite genres: rockabilly, country, rock ‘n roll, doo-wop, and surf. His love of musical showmanship first thrived at the age of 17 when he formed the Untamed Youth with several high school friends. Though short-lived, the band saw a national tour and four independent releases. After moving to the West Coast and finding himself at the heart of the L.A. roots and rockabilly scene, Dickerson met up with fellow transplant Dave Stuckey. While Dave & Deke found success and popularity, Dickerson chose to eventually move on in pursuit of a solo career.
Dickerson first tried his hand at engineering, producing an album by the Fly-Rite Boys minus Big Sandy in 1998. After assembling a terrific backing band, Deke Dickerson and the Ecco-fonics entered into the studio once again later that same year, this time to record Dickerson’s solo debut, Number One Hit Record, for Hightone.
Dickerson regularly headlines rockabilly festivals around the globe. His music has been featured in movie and television soundtracks, including the Oscar-winning film Sideways and the Discovery Channel series Monster Garage.
