ABOUT
In 1962, high school buddies George Smith, Edward Bivins, Winfred Lovett, Kenny Kelley, and Ricky Taylor came together to form The Manhattans. Hailing from Jersey City, New Jersey and taking their name from a popular cocktail, the R&B group continually exuded class throughout their extensive career.
In 1964, the band released their first of many hit singles, For The First Time. Shortly thereafter, in 1968, they were awarded “Most Promising Group” by NATRA. Only one year later, The Manhattans signed with the deluxe record label, King Records and were soon touring the country.
Despite a tragic setback with the death of their lead singer in 1970, the band persevered and went on to climb the charts throughout the early decade. In ’76, their popularity exploded with their first #1 Billboard hit, Kiss And Say Goodbye. The soulful group continued to top the charts throughout the ‘80s and ‘90s, earning themselves a place in R&B history.
With their sweet harmonies and distinctive stylings, the vocal quintet have been captivating audiences for years. For the first time, all 45 charting hits are available in one smooth package, Sweet Talking Soul 1965-1990, a velvety compilation of bittersweet tales that is guaranteed to satisfy.
