X was perhaps the quintessential Los Angeles punk band. X--Exene Cervena on vocals, John Doe on bass and vocals, Billy Zoom on guitar, and D.J. Bonebreak on drums--took the fiery energy of British punk rock and infused it with various roots music, including rockabilly and country, for a sound that was purely American. After a string of increasingly successful albums through the '80s, the band underwent personnel changes and reuninons, while members went on to other musical, literary and acting pursuits. The original lineup of X now tours nationwide, serving up searing versions of their classic songs as if they were just written yesterday.
